I am a freelance English-language editor with 15 years' experience as a multimedia editor and writer. I edit news, features, TV and audio scripts, video captions and subtitles, specialising in working with translated copy (both human and AI translations) and copy written by non-native speakers – for Le Monde, ARTE and The Africa Report.

My most recent staff job was with Le Monde's new English-language site, editing translations of Le Monde's French stories for an anglophone audience. Prior to this I took on a project working as script editor as part of a team at Euronews launching a new online show based on good news – news editing, editing the script, writing a style guide, editing social posts and writing video captions. I also provided cover as culture section editor during this time.

In my previous role at ARTE as English-language digital editor, I was the editorial lead in an EBU-led, AI-based news-sharing project with public service broadcasters from across Europe, for which I selected ARTE video content to be shared by other broadcasters and edited translations of texts and subtitles to accompany the videos, and selected video content from partners to share on the ARTE site. As the English editor of The European Collection, a related project allowing public service broadcasters from around Europe to share documentaries, I edited English translations of subtitles, wrote texts to accompany the films and managed the English-language European Collection home page, as well as a team of freelance translators.

In my post at Euronews in Lyon, I wrote news features and explainer pieces; edited articles, scripts, video captions and social posts (in particular for non-native English writers); produced 20-second captioned videos and accompanying stories for use on the site, social media and on the London Underground and at Amsterdam Schipol airport; produced and edited multimedia digital stories (copy and captioned/subtitled video), and took the lead on which videos should be used on the site and social channels on a daily basis, presenting these at morning conference. I also wrote the Euronews digital style guide.

For the broadcast side of the operation I edited and approved scripts and subtitles for various news and current affairs programmes including Unreported Europe, Real Economy. Aid Zone, Global Conversation, The Cube, Business Planet, Futuris and Climate Now, and also provided native-English voicing for various programmes.

I've previously worked as an online journalist, a sub-editor and production journalist, a feature writer and a deputy magazine editor for newspapers, magazines and websites including The Scotsman and Scotsman.com, Scotland on Sunday, The Herald and Heraldscotland.com, The Independent, The Sunday Herald, The Scottish Sun, The Local France, The Daily Record and Dailyrecord.co.uk and The List magazine.

I've written news stories (and translated them from French), including breaking news online and live blogging, and features on topics including travel, music, the Edinburgh festivals, ballet, food and drink, art, fashion, the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and London 2012 Olympics and on one unexpectedly memorable occasion, unicorns – a story that was the most read on Scotsman.com (at the time the most read news site in Scotland) two years in a row. Make of that what you will.

I have also worked on translation, transcription, script editing and subtitling for various documentary film projects.

I have an MA in French Studies from the University of Aberdeen and I'm from Edinburgh (via Muscat and Brussels) and now live in Paris (via Glasgow and Lyon).
